Static-X: No Submission

Static-X is an interesting conglomeration of a number of different metal styles. Overall, they can be lumped into the Industrial/Techno Metal genre, but they tend to transcend it. They label themselves as “Evil Disco”.

I first saw these guys on TV in college and what caught my eye initially was Wayne Static’s “Slim Jim Guy” hairstyle, but more importantly was how he was moving to the music. He wasn’t spazzing out or thrashing much – rather, he was sitting on a slower groove hidden under the pretty intense metal structure. In fact their Wikipedia entry mentions that there is an element of groove in their music that is not found in most other bands in their genre.

The band has gone through a lot of lineup changes, and even weathered one of their guitarists getting arrested for some sketchy underage shenanigans. To their credit, the band kicked him out immediately – despite their appearance they are actually pretty interesting people and family guys.

Anyway.. No Submission. A pretty good anthem for pushing though plateaus and sticking points in the gym. This is from their second-most-recent release, Cannibal.
